Bitumio > Left Navigation Bar > Product Settings > ProductsCreating A Product
Step 1: Navigate to the Products Screen and click on the Product Type to which the Product will be added.
Step 2: Click the "Create Product" button in the top-right corner.

Step 3: In the Product Information, you have 2 distinct Name Fields.
- The left 'Name' field will only be viewed internally, and thus can be descriptive enough to differentiate product by depth, crew, etc. An example being 'Asphalt Paving - 1/2" Commercial Mix - Small Job / Low Production'
- The right 'Proposal Product Name' is the customer-facing name and what will appear on Proposals. This is usually more generic, like 'Asphalt Installation.'

Step 4: Select measurement method for the Product, using the dropdown to select square feet or square yards.

Step 5: Select the material cost type using the Material Cost Type dropdown. This defines how the cost for the selected material would be measured. For instance, per block or per Ton.

Step 6: Next, select how the Labor Cost will be calculated using the Labor Cost Type dropdown. Labor can be paid by day or half day, or even per job, man hour, or unit completed.

Step 7: Now you may enter your Crew's expected production rate for the Product. Toggle the slider to use Tons per Hour for Products such as Asphalt.

NOTE: Materials such as Crackseal will require additional inputs such as Crack Depth and Overband Width. To calculate Coverage rates for your chosen material, click the Calculate Area Coverage button.

Step 8: You have the option to enter a minimum cost for a Proposal and/or Product in these next fields.

Step 9: Enter the Markup percentage, Indirect Percentage, and Overhead Percentage in their respective fields.

Step 10: Use the rich text editor under the Statement of Work heading to develop a statement of work. Choose options from the Placeholders dropdown to automatically populate your proposal before it goes out.

Adding Crews
Step 11: Select the Crew you need for the Product using the Labor dropdown. You can choose multiple crews or even choose individuals by role, depending on how you set up your Crews. See our How to Create Crews article for more information.

Adding Materials
Step 12: Add Materials to your Product.
- Products without trucking, such as Sealcoat, will have the Material selection along with the an Application Percentage and Rate.
- Asphalt includes trucking, and will have an associated Plant with selectable Materials to choose from. You'll then designate the depth to apply the Material. Continue to add Materials, if necessary, to reflect the Product you've specified in your Product Name.
- For more information on Plants, please read How to Create Plants.

Adding Equipment
Step 13: If you want to add an equipment piece, click the
button. This adds a row for the equipment piece and its quantity to be recorded. If you want to remove the row, click the trashcan icon.

Additional Costs
Step 14: If you want to add additional costs, click the
button. To learn more, see our How to Add Additional Costs article.

Step 15: Once the required details are recorded for your product, click the
button.

Subcontracted Products
Here, if it is a sub-contracted product, enable the Subcontracted product toggle. This removes the area coverage section from the details, allowing you to enter just the price your subcontractor charges you for their service, and maybe a markup for profit.
Include a Statement of Work so your customer still receives an explanation of the work performed, and a Profit Markup. You will still be able to attach images/files to the Product within the proposal.

Unit-Priced Products
Each Product Type uses a separate formula to determine how much material will be necessary, how long Jobs will take, etc. so the entries requested in each will be slightly different.
Simply toggle the Unit Priced Product slider on to create a Unit Priced Product. You can choose to measure by unit, Ton, square foot, or square yard. For more information, view our video Unit Based Products.

Using Measurement Method and Unit Price, indicate how much you'd like to charge for each Unit, say cost per Bollard. Or conversely, you may designate a something such as the price per square foot of Asphalt Patch. (Eg: 2000 sq ft of Sealcoat * .50 per sq ft = $1000 Total)
